Such a lovely cake! I’ve never had mulberries but have eaten just about every other kind. My husband is from Oregon where berries grow in the wild even on the side of the road. Olallieberries and marionberries are his favorite! And what a lovely poem, Shell. I’m so glad you are spending the time with your kids now - once that time is gone, it’s gone. You won’t regret what you are doing for them now. 💞 The days are long but the years are short.
Ok, I cried. 🙄. Your poem went right to my heart, where four other heart beats had their start… my children too fill my life with meaning. Beautiful.
And LOVED the piece. Your writing makes me want to settle in on the couch, with my China cup and saucer of steaming coffee, cat at my feet and just “be.”🥰
Another awesome post, Shell! This was such a joy to read. I loved the dive into mulberries - and will totally be giving it a go at some point. Can’t wait to see what you bake up next 😋
Oh Shell, I don't know which part touches my heart more. The perpetual crumbs on the kitchen floor. The child in yourself that can't resist their childish fun. The many unspoken ways they tell you they love you. The comfort and wonder you find when you watch them rejoice in life.
And such a precious gift to leave them. Wherever they are, whatever their lives bring, they will always cherish your words, the love behind every one of these words.
I forgot to mention about the mulberries. I love them, one of the tastes of my childhood. We discovered mulberries bushes at the cemetery after my mother died. When I’d take my little niece and nephews to visit her grave we would take a bag and collect mulberries. We come home and set up for the task of removing the stems before baking a pie. The stem task always involved a lot of quality control tasting. I learnt after the first time to strip the kids down to their undies, such sweet memories.
Thank you so much, I am so pleased you enjoyed it. It is filling me with such joy to thinking of you on the sofa, with your darling china cup of coffee, reading away! ❤️

Thank you Betty! Oh wow, I have never tried Olallieberries or Marionberries. I shall be researching those!!
Thank you Betty, I really appreciate those words. I do often worry about career and what I've left behind, so it's reassuring to hear that. 💕

Thank you so much Mark! Glad to hear you enjoyed hearing all about Mulberries.
I am now obsessed with the idea of a Mulberry Souffle, so I foresee a souffle newsletter coming soon.
A beautiful post Shell, every last crumb of it 💕
Aw, thank you Elizabeth 😊❤️

Thank you for sharing that Lisa, those are lovely memories. Haha, and I bet the kids were a mess, stained in all that mulberry juice.
